Blessed is the girl with a friend who knits…

In my last post I described how the visit of a friend inspired me to start knitting again. Not only did she inspire me, she also came bearing gifts in the form of an ‘almost complete’ knitted shawl.

For me, she chose marine colours of blue and green, very appropriate given that she knitted most of it whilst out on a boat. The wool is alpaca and oh so soft and warm.

The shawl was cast off, ends threaded in, ‘blocked and pointed’ during the stay. Blocking and pointing consists of spreading the garment across something such as a towel and pulling out and pinning it into shape i.e.: each point is pinned onto the towel.

The shawl is then sprayed with water and then left to dry completely before being removed from the towel. The purpose of blocking and pointing appears to be about defining the shape of the finished garment.

This shawl can be worn several different ways and is perfect for the current autumn weather.
