Brides in Paper …
I am currently in the throes of making some ‘brides’ for a friends wedding. I imagine they might gather together on a mantelpiece in the lounge of the restaurant where they are getting married.
The idea for the ‘brides’ started with a 30cm doll, just over half the size of the ‘finished product’ brides. I thought making them taller gave them a better proportion and provided a bit more impact.
These works in progress typically have a fabric body (including boobs), some type of paper wedding dress and foil curling ribbon (or wool) hair. Although the paper is a bit more difficult to work with than fabric, I think it gives these brides a distinct look. As the paper is quite firm and designed to sit wider at the bottom, it also means the brides can stand up on their own.
They are approximately 50cm tall. There is an abundance of miniature paper and ribbon flowers out there in craft land, making it easier to give the brides their finishing touches.
And here she is ready and waiting for a few more brides to join her, then off to the wedding (okay the mantelpiece!)
Lovely. She makes me smile.
